Guard Your Words

"Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.  Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!  And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity:  so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.  For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:  But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.  Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.  Ot of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing.  My brethren, these things ought not so to be"
James 3: 5-10

What we tend to watch or listen to on a steady basis is what is most likely what will come out of our mouth.  Think of a television commercial.  You see the same thirty second spot over and over again until it's stuck in your mind.  Or can you recall going into the grocery store or some department store and hearing a familiar song on the overhead speakers, and by the time you get back to your automobile you're humming it or remembering the beat on your steering wheel?

It is important that we guard our mind and be watchful how we hear, what we look at and listen to.  Jesus said in Mark 4:22, 24 "For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.  Take heed what ye hear."  A person who feeds their mind on foolishness all day will more likely speak it.  But a person who focus more on the Word of God on a daily basis will tend to speak wholesome words.  You are indeed what you eat.

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer"
Psalm 19:14

We should continually be on guard with the things we meditate on.  Ask the LORD today to help you to meditate more on the Word and to take heed to the words which proceed out of your mouth.  Sometimes we can simply talk to me.  Jesus said in Matthew 5: 37 "But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay:  for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil"

"O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things?  for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh"
St. Matthew 12:34

Whatever is in your heart is most likely what will come out.  Ask the LORD to create in you a clean heart and guard the words of your mouth today.  He will help you!
